Welcome to the Shire of Briaroak

The Shire of Briaroak is the local branch (Douglas County, Oregon) of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). The Society for Creative Anachronism is an international non-profit educational organization devoted to the research and re-creation of pre-seventeenth century skills, arts, combat, culture; and employing knowledge of history to enrich the lives of participants through events, demonstrations, and other educational presentations and activities.

Members of the SCA do their own research on topics such as clothing, jewelry, armor and weaponry, food, music and dance, and many other aspects of life as it was lived in an earlier time.

Experience the Middle Ages

Prepare to step into a world of chivalry, art, and camaraderie shared by over 30,000 others who seek the same dream, where armored knights clash on the list field, artisans in brightly colored pavilions paint illuminated manuscripts, and friends nearby put the finishing touches on their newest gowns, all while the gentle strains of Renaissance music weave through the air.

What is the SCA?

The SCA, incorporated in 1968 as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization, is part of the “living history” movement, where members take a hands-on approach to exploring the culture, arts, and sciences of the past. While its early focus was on Western Europe, participants are now encouraged to research and re-create societies from across the world that existed before the 17th century.
